Before you can prepare a tax return, you must have at least one tax agent set up in your Elite Practice Management system. This article walks you through the New Tax Agent Wizard to get your agent configured.
⚠️Important: You must log in as a user with Full Access security level to complete this setup. The default Administrator account (created during installation) has Full Access and no password on first use, leave the Password field blank and click OK to log in.
Set up a tax agent
Log into Practice Management as a user with a Full Access security level.
Select the ATO Processing ribbon menu, click Tax Agents.
The Setup Manager opens with the Tax Agent Setup window displayed. This window contains five tabs: Agent Details, ELS Options, Tax Return Options, Misc Options, and Ledger.Click New to launch the New Tax Agent Wizard. Use Next and Previous to move between the wizard's dialogs.
Complete the required fields in the wizard. The following information is mandatory:
Tax Agent Number (must satisfy the algorithm check issued by the Australian Taxation Office).
Contact Name.
Phone Number.
Business Name.
Postal Address.
Street Address.
📌Note: Only registered tax agents, or representatives of a registered tax agent, can prepare tax returns using Elite Practice Management. An invalid Tax Agent Number will prevent you from completing setup.
In the Tax Return Options dialog, select the details you want copied to tax returns by default.
In the Invoicing dialog, configure your invoicing preferences:
If TimeCost is installed and you want to use it for invoicing, select that option.
If you are using the built-in invoicing system, indicate whether you include GST and set the last invoice number.
In the ELS Options dialog, you can configure the tax agent's Electronic Lodgement Service (ELS) settings now or skip this step and return to it later.
Click Finish to exit the wizard.
The status bar at the bottom of Elite Practice Management will now display the tax agent number for the agent you have just created. This becomes the default tax agent for the current user and is used when creating clients, jobs, and selecting returns for ELS lodgement.Click Finish to exit the wizard.

📌Note: To change the default tax agent, go to the Edit Users dialog. Clear the checkboxes in the wizard if you do not want this agent set as your default.
After setup
Once your tax agent is configured, you can review the information entered across the five tabs in the Tax Agent Setup window at any time.
If you have Elite Tax installed, you can now complete a tax return job.
