The Standard Requirement when configuring a network dedicated server is to map the elite database to a UNC path for each workstation. The same UNC database path also needs to be configured to the dedicated server that is hosting the database.
When the UNC path has been successfully mapped by the network technician to all new and existing workstations the next step is to install a copy of the Elite Practice Management application top each PC. During the installation process of the Elite Practice Management program ensure the UNC path is accessible via the ‘Browse’ option within in the Database Configuration screen.
If any of the existing PCs need to have the UNC path changed to a new location ensure the user of each PC can access the path via File Explorer and also when browsing to the UNC path in File, Setup Manager, Database location. If the user cannot access this location the user access rights need to be reviewed
An example of a UNC path to describe the location of the data folder is shown below:
\\Server\Shared\PM data\
Ensure each user has at least read/write access to access the UNC path in File Explorer and within Setup Manager, Database Location, Browse option. The database folder must be readily accessible to all users from File Explorer and Elite Practice Management.
When a user on the network runs Practice Management the software will check if it can locate the data folder defined in Setup Manager.
If any workstation(s) cannot browse to the location of the data folder, you can enter the location of the data folder manually to the database location in File, Setup Manager and then click on the OK button.
Note: If any problems are experienced accessing network drives then it is likely the computer system has problems accessing the network. Please consult your qualified network administrator to rectify the problem and ensure the UNC path is accessible via the File Explorer and the Browse option in Setup Manger, Database Location as shown on the diagram below.
For the recommended operating systems and hardware please see System Requirements.
